Anyone who has ever hiked through the lonely winter landscape and made his own track through the snow with snowshoes or mastered the descent by sled will be richer by an unforgettable experience. Surrounded by absolute silence, crystal clear air and an overwhelming mountain panorama, the senses become awake and the soul wide. Whether with or without snowshoes, the Alpendorf St. Johann and its surroundings are a paradise for hiking enthusiasts of all ages and abilities – and the Sonnhof Alpendorf is an ideal starting point.

Alpenhof-Stadl
  • Starting point: Sonnhof Alpendorf
  • Walking time: approx. 25 minutes (one way)
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 150 hm

Take a leisurely walk down the road to the “Oberforsthof Alm”, follow the path to the right past the restaurant in the direction of “Gut Berg”. Take the tree trail in the direction of the Alpenhof-Stadl until you reach the . On this section of the trail from the Alpenhof-Stadl to the youth hostel “Weitenmoos” grow over 30 varieties of different coniferous and deciduous trees. In winter, the entire path to the Oberforsthof Alm is illuminated and is used as a toboggan run. Sledges can be rented from the Sonnhof rental.

Kreistenalm
  • Starting point: Sonnhof Alpendorf
  • Walking time: approx. 1.5 hours (one way)
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 500 hm

From Sonnhof take the road past the Almdorf, the youth hostel Weitenmoos to Sternhof. Shortly before the Sternhof, a hiking trail leads to the left to the Kreistenalm. Through the forest you hike comfortably further to the Kreistenalm. Our tip: in the afternoon you can enjoy wonderful sunshine hours with a beautiful mountain panorama on the terrace. Back you can take the same way on foot. In addition, there is also the possibility to come back to the valley with the 6er Sportbahn. If you have a toboggan from the Sonnhof rental with you, walk behind the Kreistenalm a bit on the right side of the baby lift downhill. In about 50 meters you will find a turnoff to the natural toboggan run, which ends at Pension Ötzmoos. From there you walk downhill, past the Sedlhof, back to Sonnhof Alpendorf.

Zederberghof - Sankt Johann
  • Starting point: Sonnhof Alpendorf
  • Walking time: approx. 30 minutes (one way)
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 100 hm

Here you can choose between two variants to get to the town center of St. Johann. 1st variant: Walk uphill along the road and take the first turn to the left (at Haus Höllwart). Walk leisurely along the road until you reach the Zederberghof farm. From there you have a wonderful view of the village center of St. Johann. Either take the same path back to Sonnhof Alpendorf, or walk along the hiking trail to Hotel Lerch. From there you get to the town center so you can take the bus back to Alpendorf. 2nd variant: Hike uphill from the Sonnhof and take the third turn after the Rettensteiner apartment house in the direction of Sedlhof. Along the road, turn left before the Ötzmooshof in the direction of Pension Alpenblick. After that, a hiking trail in the forest leads to the building yard in St. Johann. From there you can reach the town center and take the bus back to Alpendorf. Our tip: take a short time and enjoy the view along the first part of the forest over the whole of St. Johann.

Alpendorf Promenade
  • Starting point: Sonnhof Alpendorf
  • Walking time: to the Grubhof approx. 1/2 hour, to the town center approx. 1 hour
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 100 hm

Take the road downhill to Hotel Tannenhof and continue to Hotel Alpenschlössl. Behind Alpenschlössl a forest path leads to the farm Grubhof. Further downhill you will reach the town center after a walk. From there you can take the bus back to Alpendorf.

Stefflmoosrundweg
  • Starting point: city center
  • Walking time: about 1 hour
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 180 hm

This hiking trail leads a bit to the local mountain of St. Johann – the Hahnbaum. You can also take your car or ski bus to the city center. You can park for free behind the tax office (Hans-Kappacher-Straße) or at the ice skating rink (behind the valley station of the Hahnbaum lift). From there, walk downhill along Salzburger Straße in the direction of Knoten Nord until you see a small chapel on your right. Here you take the Stefflmoosstraße (direction Pension Talblick) uphill. Follow the road until you reach the Zacherlegg farm, then take the path across the ski slope until you come to a stretch of road again to the Großunterberg farm. Take the road downhill until you reach the cemetery and also so back to the starting point.

Brandalm
  • Starting point: sports field Sankt Johann
  • Walking time: 1,5 hours (one way)
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 530 hm

Park your car for free at the parking lot of the sports field St. Johann. Walk along the stream until you reach the federal road (B311), take the underpass to get to the other side of the road. Here you follow the path, past the farms Palfnerhof and Gollehenhof of the little used road uphill, past the Rielinghof and Birksteinhof, to the Brandalm.

Hahnbaum
  • Starting point: city center
  • Walking time: about 1,5 hours (one way)
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 500 hm

Parken Sie Ihr Auto gratis beim Eislaufplatz (hinter der Talstation des Hahnbaumliftes) und wandern Sie ein Stück bergab bis zur Bundeshauptmannschaft, danach nehmen Sie die Straße abwärts bis zur kleinen Kapelle auf der rechten Seite. Dort biegen Sie auf die Stefflmoosstraße (Richtung Pension Talblick) rechts ab. Entlang der Straße kommen Sie nach einiger Zeit an der Pension Talblick, an den Bauernhöfen Mitterbichl, Oberbichl und Schuhzach vorbei. Rechts, ca. 300 Meter oberhalb des Schuhzachgutes, führt ein Wanderweg bis zur Hahnbaumalm und weiter bis zur Vogei Hütt’n. Der Hahnbaum ist der St. Johanner Hausberg, Sie genießen eine herrliche Aussicht und ein wunderschönes Bergpanorama. Kurz vor der Hahnbaumalm führt eine Naturrodelbahn zurück ins Zentrum. Schliten können Sie sich im Dorfverleih vom Sonnhof ausleihen.

Park your car for free at the ice skating rink (behind the valley station of the Hahnbaum lift) and walk downhill a bit until you reach the Bundeshauptmannschaft, then take the road downhill until you reach the small chapel on the right side. There you turn right onto Stefflmoosstraße (direction Pension Talblick). Along the road, after some time, you will pass the Pension Talblick, the farms Mitterbichl, Oberbichl and Schuhzach. On the right, about 300 meters above the Schuhzach farm, a hiking trail leads to the Hahnbaumalm and further to the Vogei Hütt’n. The Hahnbaum is St. Johanner’s local mountain, you enjoy a magnificent view and a beautiful mountain panorama. Shortly before the Hahnbaumalm, a natural toboggan run leads back to the center. You can rent toboggans in the rental from the Sonnhof.

Gasthof Sternhof
  • Starting point: Sonnhof Alpendorf
  • Walking time: approx. 45 minutes (one way)
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 250 hm

Take the road uphill past the youth hostel Weitenmoos to the mountain inn Sternhof. Up there you can enjoy the magnificent mountain panorama.

Salzachpromenade
  • Starting point: several possibilities, many entry points directly at the Salzach river
  • Walking time: variable
  • Difference in altitude: flat paths

Walk along the Alpendorfpromenade to the Plankenau playground (in the direction of Liechtensteinklamm), or drive your car and park it for free in front of said playground. This is a perfect starting point for a wonderful winter walk along the Salzach. Here you can decide for yourself which direction you choose – towards Schwarzach (past the Liechtensteinklamm) or towards Bischofshofen. Determine the length of your walk according to your mood.
